Consider, we must.
Consider, we must.
‘When I consider your heavens’,
says the Psalmist,
‘the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place.’
Consider, we must,
the glories of creation.
For if we don’t,
we will fail to be awed by the hummingbird’s wing-speed;
or the migratory patterns of birds,
or the ant-eater’s tongue.
We will miss the elephant’s strength,
the cheetah’s speed,
and the salmon’s leap.
We will fail to hear the birds and their morning symphony,
or the tap-tap of the woodpecker,
or the distinctive sounds of a thousand other creatures.
We’ll be dumb to the 200 billion trillion stars,
or whatever ridiculously huge number it actually is.
We’ll never drink deeply of the smell of the pine tree,
or the Jasmine or Honeysuckle,
or summer meadow.
Consider, we must,
the beauty and splendour of creation -
the intricacy, complexity, and inter-connectedness,
the rhythms and systems and patterns.
Consider, we must,
the One who dreamed, conceived, gave life to it all.
The One who is glorious, majestic,
beautiful and brilliant.
The One who upholds, sustains,
rules and reigns.
Consider, we must,
the One who is mindful of man,
and confers significance and status,
value and worth,
calling and privilege,
on those created in his image.
Consider, we must.
