Let justice roll down...

On Sunday we’re going to be starting a new series on the book of Amos. A big theme of Amos is justice. In fact, you might already be familiar with a verse from Amos without even knowing it. In his April 1963 “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, MLK quotes Amos 5:24 – “Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever flowing stream." MLK invokes an 8th century BC Prophet to share God’s heart for justice in modern times.

Throughout our series, I’m going to be pushing Tim Keller’s book, Generous Justice. I’ve found it a brilliant book, and in fact, started reading it again as soon as I finished it the first time.

But to get you thinking ahead of time, I’d love to encourage you to think about a couple of questions:

ONE: How would you define ‘justice’?

and,

TWO: Where do you sit with the whole ‘social justice’ issue? Put it another way, how important is social justice to you as a follower of Jesus?

I’m not collecting in answers….these are merely for your own benefit.

Asking these sort of questions, I think, are part of the process of opening ourselves up to God’s Word…part of the process of readying ourselves…preparing our hearts, to hear from God.

Happy pondering and get ready for Amos!
